Soil capacity shown is the full interior volume from the factory specification. Plan for ~85 to 90% fill to leave room for a drainage layer at the base and ~1" of clearance below the rim. For the 44"×39", that works out to roughly 45 to 48 cu ft of soil rather than the full 53.1. Note: potting soil settles 10 to 15% after the first watering. If you plan to top off to the rim after settling, order a small margin extra. Filled weights assume saturated potting soil at ~74.8 lb/cu ft and ~90% fill for conservative load planning; actual weights vary with media density, moisture, and root ball. Bottom Dia is the outside diameter at the base, useful for sizing tray protection, base saucers, or planning narrow base clearance on stepped landings. Grow pot fit shows the nominal nursery-pot diameter that fits the planter's interior bottom, the binding constraint on a tapered form. Brand variance is typical, so verify the specific container before order if it matters.

Custom color matching is available for a $100 per-color fee that covers the full matching process, including physical spray-out samples for approval before production. Materials & Construction

• Material: hand-laid commercial-grade fiberglass with a reinforced base. The 44"×39" Wannsee weighs about 53 lb empty. An equivalent concrete planter at the same scale runs several hundred pounds, so two people can move and place a Wannsee without equipment.
• Finish system: our engineered six-stage finishing process. We pull pre-manufactured inventory, re-inspect each planter, repair any cosmetic defects, abrade the surface for durable adhesion, apply a professional automotive-grade 2K polyurethane, and cure to shipping hardness before crating. The chemistry is ASTM-rated for 1,000-hour salt spray (ASTM B117), 1,000-hour humidity resistance (ASTM D2247), and exterior UV durability.
• Color range: 20 standard colors, each available in Low Gloss or High Gloss for 40 total finish options. Custom color matching to any Pantone or RAL code is available for a $100 per-color fee, covering both gloss levels. Works equally well for hotel brand standards, architectural specs, and matching residential trim. For brand colors held in other systems, convert to the nearest Pantone or RAL equivalent for the most accurate result.

Large Round Fiberglass Planter for Specimen Trees, Hotel Entries, and Rooftops

The Wannsee is a large round fiberglass planter and specimen tree planter built for hotel entries, corporate lobbies, restaurant fronts, and rooftop terraces. The six sizes step from a 15"×13" tabletop accent up to a 44"×39" architectural focal point sized for mature specimen trees and full palms. Tree-capable sizing starts at 33", where the planting opening crosses 29" and the soil volume crosses 21 cu ft, enough to carry small-to-medium specimen trees and parlor or kentia palms. The 39" handles larger specimen trees and most commercial-scale plantings, including olive and citrus. The 44" anchors mature specimen trees and full palms for hotel entries, rooftop terraces, and lobby focal points where the planter has to read against open sky and tall architecture.

The defining detail is the round, tapered form, narrower at the base than at the rim, which softens the hard geometry of storefront glass, columns, and stair edges. The seamless one-piece commercial-grade fiberglass body weighs a fraction of an equivalent concrete planter at the same scale, so two people can place a 44" Wannsee without rigging. Designers commonly spec the 33" and 39" for hotel entries and restaurant fronts, and the 44" for rooftop sightlines and double-height lobby anchors.

Project Planning Notes

• Tree and palm sizing: tree-capable sizing starts at 33". The 33" carries small-to-medium specimen trees and parlor or kentia palms. The 39" handles larger specimen trees, palms, and most commercial-scale plantings including olive and citrus. The 44" is the strongest fit when the design calls for mature specimen trees or full palms in commercial entries and lobbies. Match planter diameter to root ball plus 4 to 6" on each side for healthy long-term growth.
• Filled weight (load planning): see the Filled (est.) column in the size table above. Estimates use saturated potting soil at ~74.8 lb/cu ft and ~90% fill for conservative load planning. The 33" lands near 1,461 lb filled, the 39" near 2,336 lb, and the 44" near 3,626 lb. For rooftop terraces, elevated patios, podium decks, and interior office floors, structural load review is appropriate on every tree-capable size. The 27" accent size also crosses 800 lb filled and is a planning point on elevated decks.
• Root ball planning: match planting opening to root ball plus space for backfill and irrigation. The 29", 35", and 40" openings on the three tree-capable sizes (33", 39", 44") accommodate most nursery-grown specimen trees and larger palms. Lighten the load by adding a layer of structural filler at the bottom of taller sizes before adding soil.
• Drainage decision: indoor use is typically "no drainage" with a saucer or basin under the root ball. Outdoor use should be "pre-drilled" to prevent freeze damage and root rot. Both options are free; pick at order.
• Base footprint and placement: the tapered round form has a narrower base than top. See the Bottom Dia column in the size table for the actual base footprint, useful for sizing protective trays or saucers, planning stepped landings, or confirming clearance against railings, columns, and stair edges.
• Placement and access: the 39" and 44" sizes are wide. Confirm doorway, corridor, and elevator clearance to the install location before delivery, especially for hotel and rooftop projects.
• Custom color workflow: send us your Pantone or RAL code. We mix the match and produce physical spray-out samples for your approval. Once approved, production begins. Add about a week to standard lead time for the spray-out and approval cycle. A $100 per-color fee applies and covers all spray-outs needed to lock the match. The fee covers both Low Gloss and High Gloss versions of that color. If your brand color lives in another system, convert to the nearest Pantone or RAL equivalent before submitting; cross-system conversions from house-paint references are typically only 80% accurate and add significant time to the approval cycle.
• Lead time caveats: standard finishes ship in about a week off-peak. Plan two weeks during peak season (May through July). Custom Pantone or RAL color matches add about a week for the spray-out and approval cycle. Fully custom shapes and sizes are built to order on a project timeline we confirm with you at order. Bulk project orders (25+ units) ship on a confirmed schedule we set at order. We confirm exact dates in writing before you commit.
