Soil capacity shown is conservative — rounded up so a buyer ordering by our number always has enough. It reflects ~90% of full interior volume to leave room for a drainage layer and ~1" below the rim. Note: potting soil settles 10–15% after watering — order a little extra if you intend to fill to the rim. Filled weights assume saturated potting soil at ~10 lb/gal for load planning; actual weights vary with media density, moisture, and root ball. Bottom (L × W) is the outside footprint at the base — useful for sizing tray protection, stand placement, or planning narrow base clearance on stepped landings. Grow pot fit follows ANSI Z60.1 nursery-stock standards; the bottom interior is the binding constraint on a tapered form. Brand variance is typical — verify the specific container before order if it matters.
Ships in 1–2 weeks for any of our 40 standard finishes and custom color matches under PPM QuickShip. Spray-out samples and custom shapes run longer; details are in the Design Guidance tab.
Prices shown are standard retail. (Trade accounts are available) They include any of our 20 standard colors in Low Gloss or High Gloss (40 finish options). Custom color matching is available with a small per-color fee that covers the full matching process, including physical spray-out samples for approval before production. The fee covers the color in both gloss levels. Pre-drilled drainage holes are free if you need them.
Materials & Construction
- Material: hand-laid commercial-grade fiberglass with a reinforced base. The 28"×28"×60" Toulan weighs about 78 lb empty. An equivalent concrete planter at the same scale runs around 400 lb, so two people can move and place a Toulan without equipment.
- Finish: multi-coat automotive-grade paint, hand-applied and clear-coated. UV-stable, frost-resistant, and rated for desert sun, coastal salt air, and freeze-thaw climates.
- Color range: 20 standard colors, each available in Low Gloss or High Gloss for 40 total finish options. Custom color matching to any Pantone or RAL code is available for a small per-color fee, covering both gloss levels. Works equally well for hotel brand standards, architectural specs, and matching residential trim. For brand colors held in other systems, convert to the nearest Pantone or RAL equivalent for the most accurate result.
- Construction: seamless one-piece body. No corner joints to fail, crack, or leak.
- Origin: a Jay Scotts silhouette, US-finished by Pots Planters & More. We stock the base inventory in our facility and finish each order to your color specification.
- Warranty: 3-year limited warranty against material and finish defects. Full warranty terms.
Tall Square Fiberglass Planter for Entries, Lobbies, and Rooftops
The Toulan is a tall, tapered indoor or outdoor square fiberglass planter built for hotel entries, corporate lobbies, restaurant fronts, and rooftop terraces. The six sizes step from a 12"×12"×22" tabletop accent up to a 28"×28"×60" architectural focal point, so a single product line covers everything from reception-desk flanking pairs to double-height lobby anchors. The defining detail is the tapered profile — narrower at the base than at the rim — which reads as deliberately architectural rather than utilitarian, and the seamless one-piece commercial-grade fiberglass body weighs a fraction of an equivalent concrete planter at the same scale. Designers commonly spec the 18"×18"×36" and 20"×20"×42" for residential and hospitality entries, the 23"×23"×48" for corporate lobbies, and the 28"×28"×60" for rooftop and podium statements.
Project Planning Notes
- Filled weight (load planning): see the Filled (est.) column in the size table above. Estimates use saturated potting soil at ~10 lb/gal for conservative load planning; the 23"×23"×48" lands near 718 lb filled and the 28"×28"×60" near 1,331 lb. For rooftop terraces, elevated patios, and interior office floors, confirm load capacity with your structural engineer or building manager — tall tapered planters at 48"+ (and any unit over 1,000 lb filled) are a common point where load review is appropriate.
- Wind exposure (48" and 60" sizes): the tall tapered profile catches wind. In rooftop, coastal, or exposed streetscape installations, the 48" and 60" sizes benefit from added ballast — a layer of gravel or sand at the base, mass at planting, or anchoring per project conditions. The narrow footprint at the base is part of the silhouette but means weighting matters more than on a wider planter. Talk to our team if you need site-specific guidance.
- Base footprint and placement: the tapered form has a smaller bottom than top. See the Bottom (L × W) column in the size table for the actual base footprint — useful for sizing protective trays, planning stepped landings, or confirming clearance against railings, planters, and stair edges.
- Drainage decision: indoor use is typically "no drainage" with a saucer or basin under the root ball. Outdoor use should be "pre-drilled" to prevent freeze damage and root rot. Both options are free; pick at order.
- Custom color workflow: send us your Pantone or RAL code. We mix the match and produce physical spray-out samples for your approval. Once approved, production begins. Add roughly one week to standard lead time for the spray-out and approval cycle. A small per-color fee applies and covers all spray-outs needed to lock the match — the fee covers both Low Gloss and High Gloss versions of that color. If your brand color lives in another system, convert to the nearest Pantone or RAL equivalent before submitting; cross-system conversions from house-paint references are typically only 80% accurate and add significant time to the approval cycle.
- Lead time caveats: standard finishes ship in 1–2 weeks under our PPM QuickShip program. Custom Pantone or RAL color matches add about 1 week for the spray-out and approval cycle. Fully custom shapes and sizes are built to order on a project timeline we confirm with you at order. Bulk project orders (25+ units) ship on a confirmed schedule we set at order. We confirm exact dates in writing before you commit.
- Multi-unit finish consistency: for runs of 4+ units, request finish-consistency confirmation before production. Single-batch production keeps color, sheen, and texture matched across the order.
For Designers & Project Teams
The Toulan is in regular rotation for hospitality, restaurant, office, and luxury residential projects across the country. Because we finish every order in our US facility, lead times stay short and color flexibility stays open.
- US-stocked, finished to your color order. 1–2 weeks for any standard finish under our PPM QuickShip program; add about 1 week for a custom Pantone or RAL color match.
- Color matching for branded environments. Match a hotel brand standard, restaurant interior palette, or architectural specification using any Pantone or RAL code. A small per-color fee covers the match and spray-out approvals.
- Trade pricing for designers, architects, landscape professionals, and hospitality procurement teams across our full collection. Apply for a trade account.
- Specification documentation: Toulan spec sheet PDF with dimensions, weights, planting openings, capacity, and finish options for project submittals. Expanded CAD and BIM files are in development.
- Freight delivery options: FedEx Freight Direct curbside (with liftgate and appointment) on $500+ orders, White Glove placement available, and orders over $3,500 include curbside shipping & handling at no additional cost. Full rate schedule is in the Shipping & Delivery tab.
- Returns: 30 days from delivery on standard-color items in original condition. Custom color match orders are made to your specification and aren't returnable. We confirm this in writing at time of quote so there are no surprises at delivery.
- Dedicated support: a project team from initial quote through delivery, not a contact form queue.
Trade Buyers Usually Ask
What sizes does the Toulan tapered square planter come in?
Six sizes: 12"×12"×22", 16"×16"×30", 18"×18"×36", 20"×20"×42", 23"×23"×48", and 28"×28"×60". All are tapered squares with a narrower base than top — see the Sizes & Pricing table above for full outer dimensions, bottom footprint, planting opening, soil capacity, grow pot fit, empty weight, filled-weight estimate, and price by SKU.
How much soil does each Toulan size hold?
Soil capacity runs from 1.0 cu ft (26 qt) on the 12"×12"×22" up to 17.0 cu ft (438 qt) on the 28"×28"×60". Numbers are conservative — rounded up so a buyer ordering by our figure always has enough — and reflect ~90% of full interior volume to leave room for a drainage layer and ~1" below the rim. Potting soil settles 10–15% after first watering, so add a small margin if you plan to top off to the rim after settling.
Which Toulan size should I pick for a lobby, entry, or rooftop project?
For most specifier-driven projects: the 18"×18"×36" and 20"×20"×42" frame residential and hospitality entries at human scale; the 20"×20"×42" and 23"×23"×48" hold presence at restaurant fronts and hotel doorways against signage and storefront glass; the 23"×23"×48" and 28"×28"×60" anchor corporate lobbies and double-height interiors where the planter has to read from upper floors; and the 28"×28"×60" reads as a single architectural statement on rooftops, podium decks, and at the end of long sightlines. For the 28"×28"×60", confirm rooftop load capacity with your structural engineer — filled weight lands near 1,331 lb, which is a common point where load review is appropriate. Curbside shipping & handling is included on orders over $3,500. Apply for a trade account for project pricing on multi-unit orders.
Can you match a brand or architectural color?
Yes. We match any Pantone or RAL code. These are the industry-standard reference systems for accurate, repeatable color matching on fiberglass. The workflow includes physical spray-out samples for your approval before production starts. A small per-color fee applies and covers the matching process, all spray-outs needed to confirm the match, and your choice of Low Gloss or High Gloss for that color. If your brand color lives in another system, convert to the nearest Pantone or RAL equivalent before submitting. For multi-unit orders (4+ units), single-batch production locks finish consistency across the run.
Can the Toulan be used outdoors year-round?
Yes. The Toulan is built from commercial-grade fiberglass with an automotive-grade UV-stable, frost-resistant finish. Toulans are installed across desert, coastal, and freeze-thaw climates and are backed by our 3-year limited warranty. For outdoor use, choose the pre-drilled drainage option to prevent water from pooling and freezing in the base. The 48" and 60" sizes have a tall narrow base — in exposed rooftop or coastal positions, weight the base with gravel or sand at planting for wind resistance.
Do you offer trade or volume pricing?
Trade pricing is available to designers, architects, landscape professionals, hospitality procurement teams, and other commercial buyers. There is no order minimum and no volume tier; all approved trade accounts receive the same trade rate across the full collection. Apply for a trade account — we typically respond within one business day.
What are typical freight options for commercial projects?
FedEx Freight Direct curbside (with liftgate and appointment) is included on orders of $500+. Orders over $3,500 include curbside shipping & handling at no additional cost. White Glove placement, blind ship, and Certificate of Insurance (COI) requests are available. For job-site delivery, multi-unit buildings, or coordinated install dates, contact our team to align lead times with your project schedule.
What documentation do you provide for project submittals?
The Toulan spec sheet covers dimensions, planting openings, capacity, weights, and finish options for the full size run. Expanded CAD and BIM files are in development. For RFP and submittal packages, contact us with your project specifics.
Are returns allowed on custom-color orders?
Returns are accepted within 30 days of delivery on standard-color items in original condition. Custom color match orders are made to your specification and aren't returnable. We confirm return eligibility in writing at time of quote so there are no surprises at delivery.
How quickly can you ship for a project deadline?
Standard finishes ship in 1–2 weeks from our US facility under our PPM QuickShip program. Custom Pantone or RAL color matches add about 1 week for the spray-out and approval cycle. Fully custom shapes and sizes are built to order on a project timeline we confirm with you at order. Bulk project orders (25+ units) ship on a confirmed schedule we set at order. Transit time is typically 3–7 business days via FedEx Freight Direct curbside (liftgate and appointment included on $500+ orders, included curbside shipping and handling on orders over $3,500).
Colors may render differently on screen than in person. For final color decisions, request a physical sample — recommended for commercial multi-unit orders.

Estimated Delivery
Most orders arrive 2–7 business days after they leave our facility, depending on destination. Standard items ship in 1–2 weeks; custom Pantone or RAL color matches add about 1 week. Fully custom shapes and sizes are built to order — we'll quote a project timeline at order.
What to expect with FedEx Freight Direct
Your large planter ships on a pallet via FedEx Freight Direct, a noticeable step up from generic LTL freight:
Want White Glove Delivery? Add it to your order at checkout for two-person delivery, placement in the room of your choice, and optional packaging removal. Available on orders $500+ in approximately 90% of the US — we'll confirm availability for your zip code.
Living in a condo, apartment, or high-rise? White Glove Delivery requires an available elevator (preferably a freight or service elevator) at the time of delivery. The FedEx team cannot carry planters up stairs. If your building requires elevator reservations, certificates of insurance, or specific delivery hours, please arrange these in advance. If elevator access is unavailable when FedEx arrives, the planter may be delivered to the building lobby or rescheduled at additional cost.
Inspect before signing. Open the pallet and check each planter at delivery. Note any visible damage on the FedEx delivery receipt before signing — this is the cleanest path to a fast resolution.
Smaller items — FedEx Ground
Some smaller planters and accessories under 150 lbs ship via FedEx Ground (commercial addresses) or FedEx Home Delivery (residential, including weekends). Standard FedEx tracking, no appointment required, no signature unless you request one. Typical transit: 1–5 business days. Your shipping confirmation email will indicate which carrier is handling your order.
If something arrives damaged
Fiberglass is durable, but freight happens. If you see damage at delivery:
We'll repair, replace, or credit at our discretion under our 3-year warranty. Concealed damage discovered after unpacking must be reported within 5 business days of delivery.
High-rise, condo, and apartment delivery
We deliver to multi-unit buildings every day, but a few things need to be in place for delivery to succeed:
Not sure whether your building can accommodate White Glove Delivery? Contact us before ordering — we'll help you choose the right service level.
Trade & job-site delivery
For landscape architects, designers, and commercial buyers:
Outside the continental US (AK, HI, Canada, international)
Orders to Alaska, Hawaii, Canada, Mexico, or international destinations can't be placed on this site. We work with freight forwarders for these regions — email sales@potsplantersandmore.com with your destination and we'll arrange a quote. FedEx Freight Direct also covers Canada, so cross-border quotes are usually quick.
Design Guidance
The Toulan's narrow base and rising profile read as architectural rather than decorative. In pairs it formalizes an entry. In stepped trios it builds rhythm and depth. In linear runs it defines circulation and traffic flow. What follows is a guide to placement, sizing, finish selection, and planting.
Where the Toulan works
Indoor
- Lobbies and reception areas, flanking entries or framing seating.
- Hospitality interiors — restaurant entries, hotel lounges, member clubs.
- Corporate floors as soft architecture between zones.
- Loft, gallery, and showroom spaces with high ceilings.
Outdoor
- Building entries and storefront frontage.
- Rooftop terraces, courtyards, and podium decks.
- Restaurant patios and hospitality outdoor seating.
- Residential entries, pool surrounds, and stepped garden lines.
Choosing the right size
| Setting | Recommended size(s) | Why it works |
|---|---|---|
| Tabletop accent / desk | 12×12×22 | Reads as a sculpted piece without crowding a surface. |
| Reception desk pair | 16×16×30 | Tall enough to register from across a lobby; narrow enough to flank a desk. |
| Entry flanking, residential | 18×18×36 or 20×20×42 | Frames a door at human scale. |
| Hospitality entry / restaurant front | 20×20×42 or 23×23×48 | Holds presence against signage, awnings, and storefront glass. |
| Corporate lobby focal point | 23×23×48 or 28×28×60 | Architectural verticality reads at distance and from upper floors. |
| Rooftop / podium statement | 28×28×60 | Anchors a corner or the end of a sightline; reads against open sky. |
Grow pot fit (standard nursery containers, single pot)
For seasonal swap-in planting or staged installations with pre-grown material, here's the largest standard nursery container that fits inside each Toulan size (ANSI Z60.1). The bottom interior is the binding constraint on a tapered form — a larger pot may pass through the top opening but won't seat at the base:
- 12"×12"×22" (9" bottom interior): 1× #2 (8.75" dia).
- 16"×16"×30" (12" bottom interior): 1× #3 (11" dia).
- 18"×18"×36" (13.5" bottom interior): 1× #5 (10.75" dia).
- 20"×20"×42" (15" bottom interior): 1× #10 (14.5" dia).
- 23"×23"×48" (17.25" bottom interior): 1× #15 (18.2" dia — sits snug at the rim, narrower at the base).
- 28"×28"×60" (21" bottom interior): 1× #25 (21.6" dia — sits snug at the rim).
Container dimensions vary by grower — if you're matching to a specific source, measure outside diameter at both top and base before ordering. For taller specimen plants, a smaller container set low in the planter and supported by drainage media reads as fully planted.
Finish & color strategy
- Low Gloss: reads as a soft satin, hides surface texture, sits quietly in residential and hospitality interiors.
- High Gloss: reflective and architectural, pops against modern facades and stone, ideal for branded retail and hospitality.
- Custom color match: Pantone or RAL only. Brand standards in Benjamin Moore or Sherwin-Williams are converted to the closest Pantone or RAL on our end (direct paint-brand matching tops out around 80% accuracy).
- Multi-unit consistency: for runs of 4+ units, request a finish-consistency confirmation before production. Single-batch production keeps color, sheen, and texture matched across the order.
Mixing finishes is a deliberate move that reads as designed. A matte black beside a high-gloss white, for example.
Planting & specifying
- Drainage: pick "pre-drilled" for outdoor; pick "no drainage" indoors and use a saucer or liner.
- Soil & weight: filled weights run from ~83 lb on the smallest size to ~1,331 lb on the largest (saturated potting soil at ~10 lb/gal for conservative load planning). The 23" and 28" sizes are the planning points to confirm rooftop, deck, or balcony load capacity before delivery.
- Soil settling: potting soil typically settles 10–15% after first watering. Our soil capacity numbers in the table above are conservative (rounded up to ensure you never come up short), but if you want to top off to the rim after settling, order a little extra.
- Plant pairings: upright grasses, slim columnar evergreens, and architectural agaves echo the silhouette. Trailing material softens the rim.
- Lighting: grazed uplighting at the base reads the taper at night and emphasizes verticality.
Specifying & documentation
- Spec sheet PDF with dimensions, weights, and finish options.
- Expanded CAD and BIM files are in development. Email the team for current availability.
- Architects, designers, and procurement teams: apply for trade pricing.

Frequently Asked Questions
Yes — pick at order time. For outdoor use, choose pre-drilled drainage so excess water can escape and protect plant roots in rain, freeze/thaw, and heavy watering conditions. For indoor use, choose no drainage and use an interior liner, nursery pot, or saucer to protect floors and finishes. Both options are free, and drainage holes can also be drilled on-site after delivery if you change your mind.
Empty weights run 9.9 lb to 68.6 lb depending on size. Once filled with growing media and water, the largest 28" × 28" × 60" can approach 1,400–1,700 lb depending on soil mix and moisture. For rooftop, balcony, and elevated interior installations, confirm load capacity with a structural engineer or building manager. Empty weights for every size are listed in the Sizes & Pricing table above.
Yes. The Toulan is available in 20 standard colors, each in Low Gloss or High Gloss — 40 finish options total. Custom color matching is also available to any Pantone or RAL code. The custom workflow includes a physical spray-out sample on fiberglass for approval before production. A small per-color fee applies and covers both gloss levels for that color. If your brand color lives in another system (Benjamin Moore, Sherwin-Williams, etc.), convert to the nearest Pantone or RAL equivalent before submitting for the most accurate match.
Choose Low Gloss for a softer, more architectural finish that hides reflections and feels understated — common in hospitality, modern residential, and landscape projects. Choose High Gloss for a polished, saturated finish that reflects more light and pulls attention — common in branded interiors, retail facades, and statement installations. Both finishes are available across the standard color range with no price difference.
The Toulan is built from commercial-grade fiberglass with a UV-stable, frost-resistant automotive-grade painted finish. It will not rust like metal or rot like wood, and it holds up across desert sun, coastal salt air, and freeze-thaw climates. Backed by a 3-year limited warranty against material and finish defects. Toulans we manufactured 10 years ago are still in service. For outdoor installations, select pre-drilled drainage and follow standard planting guidance.
Standard finishes and custom color matches typically ship in 1–2 weeks from order. Add about a week if you need a spray-out approval before production. Transit is usually 2–7 business days after dispatch. Larger planters ship by freight with curbside liftgate delivery; White Glove placement is available on request. Shipping is flat-rate based on order subtotal, with free freight on orders over $3,500.
