Materials & Construction

Material: hand-laid commercial-grade fiberglass with a reinforced base. The 36" Globe weighs about 40 lb empty — light enough for a two-person crew to move and place without lift equipment, even at the largest size.
Finish: multi-coat automotive-grade paint, hand-applied and clear-coated. UV-stable, frost-resistant, and rated for desert sun, coastal salt air, and freeze-thaw climates. The spherical surface reads especially cleanly in High Gloss — reflections curve along the form.
Color range: 20 standard colors, each available in Low Gloss or High Gloss for 40 total finish options. Custom color matching to any Pantone or RAL code is available for a small per-color fee, covering both gloss levels. Works equally well for hotel brand standards, architectural specs, and matching residential trim. For brand colors held in other systems, convert to the nearest Pantone or RAL equivalent for the most accurate result.

Project Planning Notes

Filled weight (load planning): see the Filled (est.) column in the size table above. Estimates assume 80% fill of saturated potting soil at 85 lb/ft³; the 30" Globe lands near 530 lb filled, and the 36" Globe lands near 1,070 lb. For rooftop terraces, elevated patios, and interior office floors, confirm load capacity with your structural engineer or building manager before ordering the 36" size.
Planting opening considerations: the spherical form has a narrower top opening than the body diameter — 14", 16", and 18" planting openings on the 24", 30", and 36" sizes respectively. This is part of the design (it's what makes the sphere read as a sphere), but it shapes your planting choices: root balls and pot inserts must fit through the opening. Plant young material that can be passed through the opening, then allow it to grow into the sphere.
Stability and placement: the Globe sits on a flat circular base (14"D on the 24" size, 18"D on the 30", 21"D on the 36"). It's stable without anchoring in normal use, but in exposed rooftop or coastal-wind locations, ballast the base with rock or sand inside the body before adding soil.
Drainage decision: indoor use is typically "no drainage" with a saucer or basin under the base. Outdoor use should be "pre-drilled" to prevent freeze damage and root rot. Both options are free; pick at order.
Custom color workflow: send us your Pantone or RAL code. We mix the match and produce physical spray-out samples for your approval. Once approved, production begins. Add roughly one week to standard lead time for the spray-out and approval cycle. A small per-color fee applies and covers all spray-outs needed to lock the match — the fee covers both Low Gloss and High Gloss versions of that color. Yes. We match any Pantone or RAL code. These are the industry-standard reference systems for accurate, repeatable color matching on fiberglass. Why is the planting opening smaller than the body diameter?

The Globe is a true sphere — the body curves outward from the top and bottom to its widest point at the equator. The opening at the top reads as the natural circle of a sphere viewed from above, and the smaller opening keeps the silhouette reading as sculpture rather than a bowl. On the 24" Globe the opening is 14" diameter; on the 30" it's 16"; on the 36" it's 18". Plant material and root balls must fit through this opening at install — plant young material and let it grow into the sphere.

What plants work well in a Globe planter?

The Globe reads best with single architectural plants rather than mixed plantings. Strong choices include sculpted topiary boxwood balls, single columnar plants (cypress, podocarpus), large single specimens (fiddle-leaf fig, bird of paradise, agave), and ornamental grasses. Mounding plants and clean foliage masses match the geometry. Trailing plants like creeping jenny or pothos work on the 30" and 36" sizes — they spill over the rim and read as a softened sphere with a green halo. Will the Globe roll or tip over?

No. The Globe sits on a flat circular base, not on its curved bottom — 14" diameter base on the 24" Globe, 18" on the 30", and 21" on the 36". It's stable without anchoring in normal indoor and outdoor use. For exposed rooftop, beachfront, or wind-tunnel locations, we recommend ballasting the body with rock or sand at the base before adding potting soil for extra stability.

Living in a condo, apartment, or high-rise? White Glove Delivery requires an available elevator (preferably a freight or service elevator) at the time of delivery. The FedEx team cannot carry planters up stairs. If your building requires elevator reservations, certificates of insurance, or specific delivery hours, please arrange these in advance. If elevator access is unavailable when FedEx arrives, the planter may be delivered to the building lobby or rescheduled at additional cost.

Inspect before signing. Open the pallet and check each planter at delivery. Note any visible damage on the FedEx delivery receipt before signing — this is the cleanest path to a fast resolution.

Smaller items — FedEx Ground

Some smaller planters and accessories under 150 lbs ship via FedEx Ground (commercial addresses) or FedEx Home Delivery (residential, including weekends). Standard FedEx tracking, no appointment required, no signature unless you request one. Typical transit: 1–5 business days. Your shipping confirmation email will indicate which carrier is handling your order.

If something arrives damaged

Fiberglass is durable, but freight happens. If you see damage at delivery:

Note it on the FedEx delivery receipt before signing — the driver will wait while you inspect.
Photograph the damage — pallet, packaging, and planter.
Email sales@potsplantersandmore.com within 48 hours with photos and your order number.

We'll repair, replace, or credit at our discretion under our 3-year warranty. Concealed damage discovered after unpacking must be reported within 5 business days of delivery.

High-rise, condo, and apartment delivery

We deliver to multi-unit buildings every day, but a few things need to be in place for delivery to succeed:

Reserve your building's freight or service elevator for your delivery window. Most buildings require 24–72 hours' notice and may restrict deliveries to weekday business hours.
Confirm the elevator can fit the planter — box is approximately 2" bigger than the planter dimensions. Measure your elevator and unit doorway before ordering.
Certificate of Insurance (COI) — many buildings require one before any vendor enters. We can request a COI from FedEx — email sales@potsplantersandmore.com at least 5 business days before delivery.
If the elevator isn't available when FedEx arrives, the planter may be delivered to the lobby or rescheduled at additional cost.

Finish & color strategy

Low Gloss: reads as a soft satin sphere; the curved surface holds light gently. Sits quietly in residential and hospitality interiors.
High Gloss: the curved surface reflects light dramatically; reflections curve along the sphere, which is the strongest visual move the Globe can make. Ideal for branded retail, hospitality, and gallery installations.
Custom color match: Pantone or RAL only. Brand standards in Benjamin Moore or Sherwin-Williams are converted to the closest Pantone or RAL on our end (direct paint-brand matching tops out around 80% accuracy).

For pairs and triples, use a single finish across all Globes for a sculptural read. Mixing matte and gloss in a single composition is a deliberate move best reserved for paired pieces in clearly separated zones.

Planting & specifying

Drainage: pick "pre-drilled" for outdoor; pick "no drainage" indoors and use a saucer or liner.
Soil & weight: filled weights run from ~310 lb on the 24" up to ~1,070 lb on the 36" (80% fill, saturated potting soil at 85 lb/ft³). Coordinate placement and any rooftop or balcony load review before delivery of the 36" size.
Plant pairings: the sphere geometry calls for single architectural plants — sculpted boxwood balls, single columnar plants, large single specimens (fiddle-leaf fig, bird of paradise, agave), or clean ornamental grasses. Trailing material softens the rim on the 30" and 36" sizes and breaks the strict geometry.
Specimen plants on the 36" Globe: the 18" opening accommodates standard nursery root balls. Plant young material and allow it to grow into the sphere — the form reads strongest with the canopy filling out above the rim over the first one to two seasons.
Lighting: grazed sidelighting reads the curve of the sphere; direct uplighting at the base catches the canopy of a planted tree above. The Globe's curved surface holds reflected light differently than flat planters — consider lighting angles as part of the specification.
